Dinah post #3 23-44

23. plant adaptation- the grassland shown is a species adapted in an environmental stimuli near my house. The soil is rich and the grass grows and lives.

24. autotroph- an autotroph gets its nutrients directly from the sunlight. The plant grows with the help of sunlight because it gains its nutrients along with water to make food.

25. eukaryote- eukaryote is a multicellular or unicellular organism that has a complex structure along with a cell mebrane and nucleus. This dog is an example of a eukaryote.

26. lichen- the lichen is an organism in which it is associated with fungi, or green alga. Lichens occur in hot, tropical environmental stimluli.

27. exoskeleton- exoskeleton is the hard protective covering of an organism. The black bug has an exoskeleton as a protective covering to shield or support its body.

28. gibberellins- gibberrellins are plant hormones that stimulate the length of a stem, flowering, and enzyme production. It causes fruit development. The tomatoes are an example of gibberellins.

29. parasitism- parasitism is a relationship between two organisms where one organism lives in and benefits from the other. This dog has fleas living in its fur.

30. genetically modified organism- when genes have altered with genetic engineering. The string beans have different DNA molecules, which is why they are of a different color.

31. dominant v. recessive phenotype- my hair has a black color which means it has a dominant phenotype resulting from my parents' haircolor. The phenotype is an observable characteristic. Therefore, my black hair is a dominant observable trait associating with genetics.

32. anther and filament of stamen- The white sac or pollen inside the flower is called the anther. The anther is attached to a long, thin strand, which is the filament.

33. dominant v. recessive phenotype- my eyecolor is another example of a dominant phenotype. My parents passed on their traits, which resulted in this dark brown eye color.

34. gibberellins- gibberellins is a group of plant hormones that are produced in seeds, roots, or young leaves. The grapes shown are produced from seeds are grown in an environmental stimuli.

35. glycogen- glycogen is a molecule made up of glucose units and are used as an energy source for an animal cell. The chewy bar contains glucose and adds energy to the human being.

36. ethylene- the banana and lemon are examples of fruits that release ethylene gas, which is a chemical compund, during their ripening.

37. fermentation- this yogurt was produced from lactic acid fermentation. The yogurt is made by fermenting milk with good bacteria. Lactic acid fermentation is the process that makes the safety of the food.

38. amniotic egg- this egg was produced from a chicken. An amniotic egg is atype of egg produced from birds, reptiles, or egg-laying mammals.

39. animal with a segmented body- a spider is an animal with a segmented body because it has different sections to its body. It has its abdomen, 8 different legs with its claws, the head, breast, and jaw.

40. fermentation- fermentation is the process in which sugar is being broken down by yeast and bacteria. The sugar is then turned into alcohol and ferments, which is why vinegar is a product of fermentation.

41. predation- it is the interaction between two different organisms in which one hunts on its prey. The lizard is shown carefully making moves towards the fly so it can feed on it.

42. pollinator- a pollinator contributes to the fertilization of a flower plant by carrying pollen from one part of the flower to the other. This butterfly is an example of a pollinator. Successful pollination results in the reproduction of seeds for fruits and other flowering plants.

43. rhizome- a rhizome is the horizontal stem of a plant in which different plants can be grown from. Rhizomes are well known to spread quickly and are found being grown from underground. Ginger is an example that grows from a rhizome.

44. basidiomycete- a basidiomycete is any member of a large group of fungi that produce spores. A mushroom is an example of a basidiomycete because it is a type of fungi that produces spores.

  1. Great photos Dinah! Good work!

You have some duplicates here though.

On the glycogen, you have a correct definition, but the chewy bar is not an example of glycogen... only of glucose and starch. Glycogen is only in animal bodies.

Also lichens are everywhere, except the Arctic. You probably have lichens on the trees in your yard!
